What is a salary to hourly calculator?

A salary to hourly calculator converts annual salary ↔ hourly, weekly, biweekly, and monthly pay using hours per week (default 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours per year). Take-home pay belongs on the ADP paycheck calculator.

How to convert salary to hourly (2,080-hour year)

A full-time US year is 40 hours × 52 weeks = 2,080 hours. Divide annual salary by 2,080 to get the hourly rate. $100,000 ÷ 2,080 = $48.08/hour. Change hours per week or weeks per year if the role is part-time or does not run a full 52 weeks.

  1. Enter annual salary from the offer letter or pay agreement.
  2. Confirm the 2,080-hour year — leave hours per week and weeks per year at 40 and 52 unless your schedule differs. That is 2,080 hours.
  3. Read weekly, biweekly, and monthly equivalents — the tool divides the same annual amount by 52, 26, 24, or 12 depending on pay frequency.
  4. Switch to hourly to reverse the conversion — enter an hourly rate to see the annual salary, and add overtime hours if you need that equivalent.

Weekly, biweekly, and monthly equivalents

The same annual salary can be stated per paycheck without changing the yearly total:

  • Weekly: salary ÷ 52
  • Biweekly: salary ÷ 26 (26 checks a year)
  • Semi-monthly: salary ÷ 24 (1st and 15th, 24 checks)
  • Monthly: salary ÷ 12

Biweekly and semi-monthly are not the same. Two extra checks a year on a biweekly schedule is a timing difference, not extra annual pay.

Hourly to salary and overtime

Reverse the conversion: hourly rate × hours/week × weeks/year. $35 × 40 × 52 = $72,800. If the role pays overtime, add overtime hours at the multiplier you enter (1.5× is the usual US default for hours over 40). That produces a gross annual equivalent, not take-home pay.

Take-home pay is on the paycheck calculator

This page converts salary to hourly, weekly, and monthly amounts. It does not treat net pay as the result. For a take-home estimate after FICA, federal tax, state tax, and deductions, use the ADP paycheck calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many working hours are in a year?
A standard full-time US working year is 40 hours a week multiplied by 52 weeks, which is 2,080 working hours. This calculator defaults to that figure. Change hours per week or weeks per year if you work part-time or take unpaid leave.
How do I convert salary to hourly?
Divide annual salary by 2,080 for a 40-hour, 52-week year. A $100,000 salary is $48.08 per hour. The tool also shows weekly (salary ÷ 52), biweekly (salary ÷ 26), semi-monthly (salary ÷ 24), and monthly (salary ÷ 12) equivalents.
How do I convert hourly pay to salary?
Multiply hourly rate × hours per week × weeks per year. At 40 hours and 52 weeks, $35/hour is $72,800 a year. Add overtime hours and a multiplier (usually 1.5×) if you want the annual equivalent of overtime weeks.
Does this page calculate take-home pay?
No. This page converts salary, hourly, weekly, biweekly, and monthly amounts. For a take-home estimate after FICA, federal, state, and deductions, use the ADP paycheck calculator.
How does overtime change the annual equivalent?
Overtime is added on top of regular hours at the multiplier you enter (1.5× is the common US default for hours over 40). Regular hours still use the base rate. The annual figure is regular pay plus overtime pay, not a replacement for net pay.
