BAC Level Estimator
Instantly estimate your Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) using the Widmark Formula. Account for biological sex, body weight, number of drinks, and time elapsed.
BAC Estimator (Widmark Rule)
Estimate your Blood Alcohol Content based on weight, sex, and time elapsed.
Standard Drink Guide
1 Drink = 12oz Beer (5%), 5oz Wine (12%), or 1.5oz Liquor (40%).
Lowered inhibitions, good mood.
Medical Disclaimer
This tool is for educational purposes only. Biological factors such as metabolism speed, food intake, and medication can drastically alter real BAC levels. Never drive after consuming alcohol. This tool does not provide medical or legal advice.
The Science of Alcohol Metabolism
Alcohol is metabolically unique. Unlike proteins or fats, which are digested, alcohol is absorbed directly into the bloodstream and processed primarily by the liver. This BAC Estimator uses the Widmark Formula, the clinical standard for estimating blood alcohol levels based on biological and temporal factors.
Why Does Weight and Sex Matter?
Blood alcohol concentration depends on the amount of water in your body.
- Biological Sex: On average, men have a higher percentage of water in their bodies than women. This means a man will typically have a lower BAC than a woman of the exact same weight after consuming the same amount of alcohol.
- Body Weight: The more you weigh, the more water is available in your tissues to dilute the alcohol.
- The Decay Rate: The human liver processes alcohol at a steady rate, typically 0.015% per hour. No amount of water, coffee, or cold showers will speed up this biological process.
The 'Standard Drink' Trap
The most common mistake when using a BAC tool is underestimating what counts as a "drink." A massive 22oz craft IPA (8% ABV) is actually 3 standard drinks, not one. Always check the alcohol percentage on the label for accurate results.
Important Safety Disclaimer
This tool is for educational purposes only. Biological variables (medication, food intake, metabolic speed) can cause your real BAC to vary significantly from this estimation. Never use this tool to determine if you are "fit to drive." If you have consumed alcohol, do not operate a vehicle.
